Wabi and sabi
written by: woman in the moon

wabi-sabi is the Japanese art of finding beauty in imperfection and profundity in nature, of accepting the natural cycle of growth, decay, and death.
only it's more cheerful than that.
The fender where the hand has worn the paint.

The Japanese view of life embraced a simple aesthetic
that grew stronger as inessentials were eliminated

The Great Popcorn Adventure & the Border Crossing
written by: Leisah
56 USA
When Roz arrived in Seattle for our visit, and we started talking about our planned drive across the border into Canada, she said "I remember last time I was up here with the boys and we went up to Vancouver, you had us look all over for that popcorn you liked. We couldn't imagine what the big deal was about this popcorn but then we bought it, and tasted it on the train ride back to...

A date which will live in infamy.
written by: Empathica

I woke up at 4am to eat. Banana, bagel, powerbars and water. I meditated on the bed for half an hour until I got up to take a shower.
I took the morning slow. Got to transition early, set up my bike and race kit. Dropped off my special needs bags and got into my wetsuit. Chatted with the guy next to me, who was from Brooklyn and was also doing his first Ironman.
We...

Because I so enjoy making lists... I call this one: Things I Thought To Share While I Was Working At The Y
I don't like the Beatles. They have a few songs that are okay, but overall, I don't see why everyone thinks they're so great.
I love Orange Mango CreamKoolas from the Borders Cafe
I can't stand Cucumber Melon
My favorite numbers are 17 and 22

"We are mother to the child inside of us once we grow-up. If this mother doesn't take care of us the way we need then we have no one else to blame if we don't turn out right." Sam Ashley 2004
Perpetual child that will never grow up. Finding that at nearly 70 I am as happy as a 3 year old playing in mud.
Which is exactly what I am doing now.
Living here in Mountain View,...

Obama's Numbers Simply Don't Add Up
written by: Notliberal

Obama delivered a bitterly partisan speech to Congress last night. Between accusing his opponents of lying and playing games, he delivered a speech that simply doesn't add up financially. I was struck by Obama's arrogant tone and the three headed beast of Obama, Biden and Pelosi glaring at Republicans like they're naughty children who need to be taught a lesson. For a President who claims he...

District 9
written by: cyberskirt

District 9 is an awesome movie.
The psychology behind the movie is.. well, its stark, frank and honest. Humans, individual and as a whole, the worst and in the end the best? in them. It's not just some sci-fi movie, it's a message, a slap in the face, a wake-up call.
There is no flowery happy ending, there isn't a massive 'we must do something about this', we live our lives, everyday...

Patched Jeans
written by: Jazmynroez

When I was growing up, we shopped at the Goodwill store. Everything I wore was used or hand-me-downs. My brother usually got a few new pairs of pants/jeans every year for birthday and xmas and I was always -so- bitter and jealous about that. I resented the -hell- out of what I had to wear, and that it wasn't in "style" like the rest of the girls in school. When...

Saturday the 12th september will mark 100 days since my boyfriend died.
I wanted to write a wee poem, something special to leave by his grave side,
i just wanted to ask people to look over it, help me, and give any advice into changes to make this perfect for him.
